Transgender Day of Remembrance Service

Transgender Awareness is dedicated to educating people about the transgender community and raising awareness of the issues facing trans and gender nonconforming people. Transgender youth, especially, face a number of challenges related to anti-transgender bias. In 2014, Transgender Awareness has been expanded to the entire the month of November. Cathedral of Hope OKC and the Cimarron Alliance Equality Center are proud bring the Transcending Gender Project to Oklahoma City November 17-23. This project is a collection of photographs from all over the US to show the world that trans people are students, teachers, doctors, lawyers, musicians, cat rescuers, dancers, artists, homebodies, lovers, fighters, movers, and shakers. It reflects that everything the trans community has to offer the world transcends the boundaries of gender. This project is about so much more than just photographs of trans and gender non-conforming people. It’s about showing the world that all people should be appreciated, embraced, and celebrated for who they are and what they have to offer the world. The Transcending Gender Project will be on display the following dates and times: • Cimarron Alliance Equality Center 11/17-11/21, 12-8pm. • Mayflower Congregational UCC on 11/23, following the 9am & 11am services. • Cathedral of Hope OKC on 11/23, following the 6pm Transgender Day of Remembrance service.
